Yvonne’s volunteer roles on Mull during ‘Lockdown.’

Yvonne Marjot, LiveArgyll’s library assistant in charge at Tobermory has been volunteering her time since lockdown using her various skills to support the local community.

She has started up Gardeners and Growers Mull, Iona, Ulva which within days has added 196 members and counting! The group is sharing everyday stories of isolated gardens, tall tales about gardening, plenty of great growing advice and lots of virtual support. They also have access to a team of approved volunteer drivers, following protocols, who can pick up and deliver between households, as well as their main task which is delivering shopping to people at home across the islands. The local shops are fully on board with the new delivery service, and their staff have been absolute heroes.

As well as all of this Yvonne has been putting her writing talents to good use and is writing a new children’s story every week, based on a traditional tale. Each story is recorded and sent to podcast organisers for Mull Insider Art. She has already written and recorded three tales – you can listen to these free on Soundcloud.
