How it works
- Sign up at your local liveArgyll Library from 22/6/24 and receive a Reading Challenge card.
- Read/listen to five books* of your choice throughout the Summer (22/6/24 – 31/8/24).
- Complete and return the Challenge card to receive a goodie bag and certificate.
*This is a personal challenge so the amount may vary due to age and/or reading ability.
A Challenge for the ages
The Challenge is open to individuals and groups of all ages:
- Mini Challenge available for 0-4 years
- Junior Challenge for 5 – 11 years
- Adult Challenge for 12 – 100+ years
- Family Challenge for those who want to sign up together

Read for Summer Theme
This summer’s theme is going to be an absolute blast!
We’re calling it “Arty Crafty” because we want to reveal everyone’s inner artist.
From little ones to the young at heart, we’ve got you covered with a mix of events that’ll leave you grinning from ear to ear. There will be stories to be told and imaginations to be unleashed.
Get ready for some cross-generational fun and a ton of exciting activities for all ages. Let’s make some masterpieces together!
Terms and Conditions
Get ready to put your bookworm skills to the test with our reading challenge!
The challenge period runs between 22/6 and 31/8 2024, and the best part? We have suggested the number of books you should read but you can set your own reading goals! All you need to do is let our team know when you sign up, and we’ll keep track of your progress.
Keep in mind that you need to be a liveArgyll library member to join in on the fun. But don’t fret if you’re not already a member or are on a holiday, you can sign up at registration!

Campbeltown Library
Spinning Demo & Weaving Crafts
Date: Wednesday 10th July
Time: 2.30 to 4.00 pm
Come along and experience the art of spinning yarn from sheep’s wool using a spinning wheel.
Free event, suitable for all ages.
Crafting at the Library
Date: Wednesday 7th August
Time: 2.30 to 4.00 pm
A fun crafting session for our younger members.
Free event, suitable for children aged 5 – 11 years.
Toddler Time Crafting Session
Date: Friday 23rd August 10 am to 12.30
Time: 10 am to 12.30 pm
A fun, free crafting session suitable for toddlers and their grown-ups.
Dunoon Library
Clay Crafting
Date: Thursday 18th July
Time: 5.00 – 6.30 pm
Come along and try out air-drying clay, experiment with prints from nature, or make a picture frame for your works of art. Suitable for all ages.
Intergenerational Crafting with Dunoon Community Shed
Date: Saturday 20th July
Time: 9.30 – 11 am
See demonstrations of ancient and modern crafts – from 3D printing to model railways to embroidery.
Suitable for all ages.
Woolly Wednesday
Date: Wednesday 31st July
Time: 2 – 4 pm
Try out knitting, weaving, felting or just make pompoms.

Helensburgh Library
Community Colouring and Crafting with Fiona
Date: Thursday 25th July
Time: 2 – 4 pm
Come along and enjoy crafts for all ages, including some community colouring. This is a free event suitable for all ages.
Stay and Play Crafting session
Date: Wednesday 7th August
Time: 11 am – 12.30 pm
This is an after-Bookbug stay-and-play crafting session. This free event offers crafting activities suitable for families with children ages 0 to 11.
Oban Library
Floral Fun
Date: Wednesday 24th July
Time: 10 am – 12 pm
This is a fun event where you can use dried flowers and resin to make coasters, wall hangings, and other items. Continuing with the floral theme, we’ll also be painting greeting cards!
Drop-in event – children should be accompanied by an adult.
Mixed Textiles

Time: 2 pm – 4 pm
Continuing our crafting theme, this event features sewing and mixed-media art.
