Benefits of Boxing

Across our sites in Campbeltown, Dunoon, Helensburgh, Lochgilphead and Rothesay we offer various boxing-based fitness classes to get you fighting fit!

Based on various traditional boxing drills and sequences, these classes give you a full-body workout in a sociable and exciting environment – whether it’s called Hatton Boxing, Boxfit or one of our virtual classes. Benefits of these classes include toning muscle and gaining strength; mental stimulation; improved balance and co-ordination; and better cardiovascular health and endurance.

Charlie’s Story

I have been a liveArgyll member for over 15 years. I chose to start boxing as it helps with my hand-eye coordination and maintains my stamina for other classes that I attend. I have been boxing for about 10-12 years and the results are outstanding. I really enjoy boxing as it improves sociality, joint improvement and self-confidence.

Since joining the classes I have made very, very, very good progress in terms of physicality and improving my body type and muscle tone. The ability to train with others has also improved my ability to converse and convey ideas to other people.

Ruaridh’s Story

I use the gym and fitness classes on a regular basis and have done since school. The gym at Mid Argyll Sports Centre offers a great choice of cardio equipment and a decent enough weights room that caters for the vast majority of users. I enjoy the vibe of the weights room. It allows me to work out in a room full of like-minded people striving to reach their goals whether that goal is toning, weight loss or increasing muscle size – we are all in it together!

One of the classes I particularly enjoy is Hatton Boxing which I started going to in 2019 with a couple of friends as an alternative to going to the cardio room, which for me can be a bit boring.

I enjoy the pad and glove aspect of the class, where you take part in different themed rounds all with various combinations, ranging from easy combo rounds to ones that are more challenging. Since the first time I attended, I was surprised to see how people with different levels of fitness can have the same rewarding workout whilst still having a laugh. If having a

bad day I can take my frustrations out in the combinations and “leave it all in the ring” as they say!

I have definitely found classes such as Hatton really beneficial to my physical and mental health and also a great way to compliment my gym routine.
