Congratulations to our Bibliographic and Local Studies Librarian, Eleanor McKay, who retires after more than 26 years of working in Argyll and Bute Libraries, later becoming liveArgyll Libraries.

Eleanor stepped into the role of Reference and Lifelong Learning Librarian in 1999, based in Helensburgh Library, until 2001, when she moved to Library Headquarters in Sandbank. Here, she donned a new hat as the Information and Local Studies Librarian (now Bibliographic and Local Studies Librarian).

Working tenaciously throughout her career, Eleanor has supported our communities and the whole library team. She receives and responds to emails from people worldwide asking for help with local history and their connections to Argyll and Bute. She has also provided our Library Team with the support to run our library management system and is the best person we know to build display cabinets (which we assure you is no mean feat).

Her passion and dedication shine through in everything she has done, whether putting together local history exhibitions or curating World War I exhibitions, to name just a few. It’s clear what an impact she has made, culminating in the well-deserved honour of being named Eleanor McKay MBE and receiving an honorary CILIPS membership.

She is a beloved member of the Library Team and will be greatly missed.
